CHINESE LANGUAGE (SEC 1 TO 4/5)

1.5 hours per week

For CL students who wish to focus on reinforcing MOE school syllabus and tackle all components of the CL exams

  • Master content of CL syllabus in school

  • Practise all components of the CL exams, with heavier emphasis on Paper 2

  • Essay & Oral practice once a month

    • Aligned with the latest MOE syllabus and exam requirements for Chinese Language

    • Complement students’ learning in school, with a strong emphasis on expanding repertoire of vocabulary and reading comprehension skills

    • Systematically acquire 300 – 400 new vocabulary words per year, and be able to apply them adeptly into written and spoken contexts

    • Exposure to a variety of genres, text types and cultural contexts to deepen students’ appreciation of the language and hone their sensitivity to the Chinese language and culture

    • Immerse in Chinese culture through exposure to poetry, prose and current affairs through multi-media materials

    • Impart cognitive skills (creative thinking, critical thinking, analytical and evaluative skills and problem-solving skills) and transferable skills (socio-emotional competencies, ICT literacy, cross-cultural communication and self-directed learning)

    • Provide students with a platform to revise, reinforce and apply their knowledge and skills

    • Receive personalised feedback for improvement and acquire examination skills through regular tests, revisions and mock examinations

 

HIGHER CHINESE LANGUAGE (SEC 1 TO 4/5)

1.5 hours per week

For HCL students who wish to focus on reinforcing MOE school syllabus and tackle all components of the CL & HCL exams

  • Master content of HCL & CL syllabus in school

  • Practise all components of the HCL & CL exams, with heavier emphasis on Paper 2

  • Essay & Oral practice once a month

    • Aligned with the latest MOE syllabus and exam requirements for Higher Chinese Language

    • Complement students’ learning in school, with a strong emphasis on expanding repertoire of vocabulary and literary techniques, editing skills, reading comprehension skills and summary skills

    • Systematically acquire 400 – 500 new vocabulary words per year, and be able to apply them adeptly into written and spoken contexts

    • Exposure to a variety of genres, text types and cultural contexts to deepen students’ appreciation of the language and hone their sensitivity to the Chinese language and culture

    • Immerse in Chinese culture through exposure to poetry, prose, literary classics and current affairs through multi-media materials

For HCL and CL students who wish to focus on Essay Writing and Oral Examination components

  • Gain thematic content knowledge and intensive hands-on practice

  • Practise 1 Essay and 1 Oral Conservation every week

Take this with Chinese Language or Higher Chinese Language for best results!

    • Master the process of writing good essays of various genres, including narrative, expository and argumentative

    • Acquire a range of creative techniques to essay writing, exploring novel ideas and varied writing styles

    • Hone the ability to plan, organise information and translate thoughts into clear writing for situational writing tasks (i.e. crafting an email)

    • Learn to construct good sentences and paragraphs, enriched with literary devices, advanced vocabulary and other essay-writing tools

    • Gain exposure to a selection of literary works and current affairs readings to increase repertoire of cultural and general knowledge

    • Learn to speak fluently, express opinions confidently and engage in discussion based on in-house created exam-oriented audio and video materials with adept use of vocabulary

    • Hone conversational skills through class discussions on various themes outlined in the latest MOE syllabus, including “Family Life”, “School Life”, “Living in our Society”, “Current Affairs in Singapore and the World”, “Caring about the Environment”

 

CHINESE LANGUAGE & LITERATURE (SEC 3 TO 4/5)

    • Aligned with the latest MOE syllabus and exam requirements for Chinese Literature

    • Strengthen students’ knowledge and understanding of the set texts in each category of the syllabus (long-form novel, poetry and contemporary novel) through sharing of authors’ and poets’ backgrounds and the historical/ cultural contexts of the works

    • Sharpen skills to critically evaluate authors’ choice of form, structure and language in various types of literary works

    • Enhance students’ ability to read deeply, comprehend, analyse and critique a range of literary texts

    • Provide ample exposure to commonly tested question types and hands-on practice for the analysis of unseen prose and poetry

    • Impart answering techniques and essay writing skills for literary analysis

    • Practise crafting insightful, well-substantiated and coherent responses to exam questions

 

‘O’LEVEL CHINESE/HIGHER CHINESE EXAM CRASH COURSE (SEC 3 to 5)
